RINDGE, N.H. – It was a quick turnaround for the Queens College softball team that went from Rockville Centre, New York to Rindge, New Hampshire under 24 hours as they matched up against the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University at Bisaccia Field Wednesday afternoon.
But the Knights dropped both games to the Ravens falling to the score of 9-1 in five innings in game one before dropping game two to a final score of 3-1.
The home side would take a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch after one inning of play. Queens would tie the game in the top half of the third as junior
Cyarra Alvarado (Coral Spring, Fla) (1-3 AB, R) singled to left-center with one out. Senior
Marisa Sagona (North Babylon, N.Y.) (2-2 AB, 2B, BB) singled to left-center as Alvarado advanced to second. The Knights would tie the game as senior
Danielle D'Angelo (Middle Island, N.Y.) (1-3 AB, RBI) drove home Alvarado from second base.
But the Ravens would end the inning as they got the last two out to prevent any further damage leaving two knights stranded in scoring position. Franklin Pierce would respond back with two runs in the bottom of the third before tallying six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take game one to the score of 9-1.
It was a tight nightcap as game two starter sophomore
Arianna Fracchioni (Westbury, N.Y.) kept the game scoreless until the Ravens tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead.
Trailing 3-0 at the start of the fifth inning, freshman
Mariah Salvatto (Manorville, N.Y.) earned a walk but advanced to third as the Ravens got the next two out. Junior
Dyana Budakowski (Washingtonville, N.Y.) (1-2 AB, RBI) brought home Salvatto with a RBI single to center field as the Knights cut the deficit down to 3-1.
But Queens were unable to find any further offense as they dropped the nightcap to the score of 3-1.
