FLUSHING, N.Y. – With sunny, warm conditions outside the Queens College Tennis Bubble, the Queens College men's tennis team continued their hot streak as they extended their win streak to four games and opened East Coast Conference play on a high note as they defeated the Firebirds of University of the District of Columbia Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Knights improved to 5-4 overall, 1-0 in ECC play, while the Firebirds moved to 2-7 overall, 0-1 in conference action.
Doubles Competition
The Knights took an early 1-0 lead as the #3 doubles duo of freshman
Philipp Uhde (Heidelberg, Germany) / senior
Hugo Evangelista de Andrade (Goiania, Brazil) quickly dispatched the duo of Jake Bedforth/Fredis Ayala to the score of 6-1.
The Knights would take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play as the #1 doubles pair of junior
Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) / junior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Louis Mangeon/Juan Hernandez.
Queens would sweep the doubles competition as the #2 doubles pair of junior
Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina ) / Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) battled back from being down 3-1 to win 7-6
(7-4) as they defeated Maksim Bahdanovich/Mauricio Corty.
Singles Competition
The Knights wasted no time clinching the match as the singles court 4, 5, 6 won by a combined margin of 36 to 2.
Senior
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) swept Bedforth at #5 singles court to the score of 6-0, 6-0 before Uhde shutout Ayala to the score of 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles court.
The Knights would clinch the match at #4 singles as sophomore
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) defeated Bahdanovich to the score of 6-0, 6-2 giving the Knights a 4-0 lead.
Bibiloni continued the sweep streak with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Corty at #2 singles court before Demuth picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at #3 singles court over Hernandez.
It was a duel at #1 singles court as Rashad battled for a first set victory of 7-6
(10-8) against Mangeon before cruising in the second set with a 6-1 victory to complete the Saturday afternoon 7-0 sweep and open conference play with a victory.

Somadi Druker and the Knights take a break from conference play and go back to cross-divisional play Monday (Mar. 21) afternoon as they welcome Division D1 NEC member Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
