FLUSHING, N.Y. – It was a battle to the end but the Queens College men's tennis team
(4-4 overall) dug deep to defeat the visiting Panthers of Adelphi University inside the Queens College Tennis Bubble Tuesday afternoon.
Doubles Competition
It was the Panthers who struck first taking the doubles point at #3 singles as the duo of sophomore
Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) / freshman
Philipp Uhde (Heidelberg, Germany) fell 6-3 to Thiago Negrao / Thomas Horsley.
But the Knights would battle back and clinch the last two doubles matches to go up 1-0. The Knights' nationally-ranked #42 duo of sophomore
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / senior
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) continued their win streak as they rallied back to defeat Panthers #1 duo of Marko Jovanovic / Gabriel Balestero to the score of 6-4.
Just as the #1 doubles duo tied the doubles competition, #the 2 doubles pair of junior
Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) / junior
Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Pietro Sole / Salomon Arce Lema.
Singles Competition
Demuth would put the Knights up 2-0 as he swept Adi Saginayev in straight sets to the score of 6-3, 6-1 at #3 Singles. Shehawey put the Knights in a commanding position with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Reece Farrow at #4 singles.
Uhde would clinch the match for the Knights at #6 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Luke Attride-Stirling.
At #5 singles Borges won the first 6-3 before having to battle it out for the two-set victory over Sole. Borges up 4-3 in the second set had to battle back before winning the second set 7-6
(13-11) putting the Knights up 5-0.
But the Panthers would take the last two singles matches as Rashad dropped a three-set match at #1 Singles falling 6-4, 1-6, 3-6 to Jovanovic.
Junior
Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina ) would fall in a three-set match after winning the first 7-5 against Balestero. Balestero would win the second set 6-4 before outlasting Bibiloni 10-8 in the third set tiebreaker.

Somadi Druker and the Knights open East Coast Conference play on Saturday (Mar. 19) against the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia inside the QC Tennis Bubble. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
