Women’s Basketball Show no Quit, Fall in OT against Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –  Playing in their final road game of the season, the Queens College women's basketball team rallied back from a 14 point deficit, but senior Nora Gabel (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) three-point shot would fall short at the overtime buzzer as the Knights fell 67-64 to the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks inside Voller Athletic Center in East Coast Conference action.

How it Happened

Queens got on the board first as junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) found freshman Eldina Dervisevic (Queens, N.Y.) for a jumper on the corner before the Knights went scoreless from 9:10 to 4:27 as Roberts Wesleyan went on a 16-0 run. The Knights came out strong to open the second stanza as they went on an 8-1 run from 9:35 to 6:00 to cut the deficit down to one, 19-18. But the home side would respond with a 10-2 run and take a nine-point lead, with 2:37 left until halftime.

But Queens refused to go away and would end the second quarter on a 6-0 run over the final 2:37 as Demry and freshman Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) combined for six points to trail by three, 29-26 at halftime.

Reeves and Gabel combined for eight points to tie the game 48-48 at the 8:04 mark. The fourth quarter saw two lead changes and five ties as the Knights continued to battle back.

The Knights would get their first lead of the game since the first quarter at the 5:31 mark as Reeves completed a three-point play to go up 52-51.
