Reeves Sixth Double-Double Not Enough Against Bridgeport

FLUSHING, N.Y. –Freshman Chelsea Reeves (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched her third straight double-double with a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds but the Queens College women's basketball team would falter in the second half as the Knights dropped a 63-55 East Coast Conference affair to the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights Sunday afternoon inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

How it Happened

The Purple Knights jumped ahead 13-6 at the 3:59 mark in the first quarter before the Knights went on a 6-0 run and get within one, 13-12. But the visitors would take a 19-17 lead into the second stanza.

Queens opened the second quarter on a 4-0 run as freshman Jennah DeGout (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) gave the Knights a 21-19 lead at the 9:02 mark. The Purple Knights took a 27-26 lead before the Knights went into halftime up by five, 32-27 as they held Bridgeport without a field goal for the final 5:14 of play.

DeGout gave the Knights a seven-point advantage, 34-27 at the 9:06 mark before Bridgeport made their comeback attempt. With the Knight leading 42-36 halfway into the third quarter, the Purple Knights ended the third quarter on an 11-3 run taking a 47-45 lead into the last quarter.

It was a sluggish start to the fourth quarter as both teams went scoreless until Bridgeport went by four, 49-45 at the 7:22 mark. The Knights would get within two, 51-49 but fourth-quarter shooting struggles would derail the comeback attempt as Queens fell 63-55 Sunday afternoon.

By the Numbers

Reeves notched her third straight double-double and sixth of the season as the rookie tallied a game-high 20 points (5-of-10 FG, 10-of-11 FT) with 13 rebounds and three steals. While classmate DeGout notched a near double-double with 19 points (7-of-16 FG, 5-of-5 FT), nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals on the afternoon.
