Men’s Tennis Battles Cross-Town Division I St. John’s University

FLUSHING, N.Y. – On Wednesday afternoon the Queens College men's tennis team went cross-divisional for their second match of the season as they took on Big East member and cross-town opponent St. John's University Redstorm inside the friendly confines of the QC Tennis Bubble. 
 
Going up against a tough division one opponent, the Knights (0-2) gave it their all but would fall to the Redstorm (7-1) 7-0 on the day. 
 
Overall series: The Knights trail the overall series 0-3 against SJU.
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights' #3 doubles duo of junior Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina ) / sophomore Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) would fall first as they were defeated by Carl Gustavsson / Giuseppe De Camelis to the score of 6-3. 
 
The Knights #2 doubles duo of sophomore Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / senior Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) fell 6-2 against Charlie James / Ryota Kaneda as SJU went up 1-0. 
 
The #1 doubles match between junior Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) / junior Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina) against Alex Vila Antuna / Ignacio Garcia went unfinished with the Knights trailing 5-4. 
 
Singles Competition 
 
Ostheimer was inserted into the singles lineup for the first time this at #6 but he would fall short as he was defeated by De Camelis 6-4, 6-0. 
 
Garcia would sweep Demuth at #2 to the score of 6-4, 6-1 before James defeated Bibiloni in a tough match at three. Bibiloni gave it his all as he took the first set into the tiebreaker but would ultimately fall 7-6, (7-3), 6-3 as SJU took the match. 
 
Shehawey gave Gustavsson all he could handle but the Egyptian native would fall short to the score of 7-5, 7-5 at #4 singles. 
 
Rashad went back and back forth against Antuna as he gave the Redstorm #1 everything he had but it would not be enough as  Antuna defeated Rashad 6-4, 6-4. 
 
Borges was the last Knights player to fall in another tough singles match at #5 against Redstorm Vlad Vasilache. But the German native would fall short 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 as the Knights were unable to avoid the sweep.
 
NEXT MATCH: Head Coach Somadi Druker and the Knights welcome the Fordham University Rams on Saturday (Feb. 19) evening as the cross-divisional match-ups continue. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m.
