SPARKILL, N.Y. – Undermanned for the third straight game, the Queens College women's basketball team fell to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College at Aquinas Hall Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.
How it Happened
Queens opened the scoring as sophomore
Aalia Carlson (Montclair, N.J.) knocked down a three before the Spartans got on the board at 8:09. The Knights would jump ahead 8-2 as the duo of freshman
Jennah DeGout (Bronx, N.Y.) and senior
Nora Gabel (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) went on a 5-0 run. Both sides would trade buckets before the home side ended the first quarter on a 10-5 run to take a 20-15 lead.
The Knights would struggle offensively in the second quarter as the deficit grew to 15, 30-15 before Gabel connected from deep to bring the Knights within 12, 30-18 with 4:42 left until halftime.
Coming off one day of rest, the Knights struggled to find any offensive rhythm as they were unable to rally back in the second half and fall to the final score of 88-41 Saturday afternoon.
By the Numbers
Two players scored in double figures led by Gabel 12 points (4-of-15 FG) with three rebounds, while Carlson tallied 12 points (4-of-14 FG) on the day.
Queens were held to 29.6 percent (16-of-54) from the field and 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from beyond the arc. While the Spartans shot 66.1 percent (39-of-59) from the field and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from three.
