Men’s Basketball Opens a Season-High Five Game Homestand

FLUSHING, N.Y. – East Coast Conference play continues for the Queens College men's basketball team as the Knights open a season-high five-game homestand beginning on Friday (Dec. 9) evening as the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University come to town. 
 
Following the conference action, the Knights take a break from ECC play as they begin a three-game non-conference stand to conclude the fall portion of their schedule with a match-up against the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport on Sunday (Dec. 11) afternoon.
 
Scouting the Knights
  • The Knights are 4-4 overall, 1-1 ECC play on the season. 
    • They are coming off a 1-1 week in conference having fallen to D'Youville before the Knights ended an 11-game losing streak to Daemen. 
      • It was the first win for the Knights in Amherst against Daemen. 
  • Queens is averaging 68.6 points per game on 42.0% shooting and are averaging 40.3 rebounds and 11.6 assists per game. 
  • Sophomore Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) leads the offense averaging 14.6 points per game and recorded a career-high 21 points in the victory over Daemen. 
    • Diamond recorded the Knights first triple-double of the season in the victory over Alliance and the first triple-double since the 15-16 season. 
  • While senior William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) is averaging 11.4 points per game and recorded a season-high 22 points in the victory over Holy Family. 
  • Senior Tyler Carey (Bay Shore, N.Y.)  is averaging 11.1 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game. 
    • The senior has three double-doubles on the season and two in a row in conference with a career-best and ECC season-high 17 rebounds.
  • On Monday (Dec. 5), The East Coast Conference office awarded Carey Defensive Player of the Week, while Diamond a honor roll spot on the fourth Men's Basketball Weekly Report of the Year. Link
    • Diamond has earned a spot on the ECC Honor Roll Sheet (11/14, 11/28)
    • Ellis earned an ECC Honor Roll spot on Nov. 21.
  • On Tuesday (Dec. 6) Carey earned MBWA DII/III Honorable Mention Link
  • Queens is 11-8 overall against Roberts Wesleyan. Last season the Knights earned a series split with both sides taking care of business on their home court. 
    • Queens would fall to Roberts Wesleyan in the ECC First Round game at home as they hosted their first home game since the 2010-11 season. 
  • While against the Purple Knights, Queens is 11-36 overall but are on a two-game win streak having swept the season series last season. At home, Queens is 7-15 overall against the Purple Knights. 
    • Bridgeport left the ECC to join the CACC in the summer.

  • Malik Brooks leads the offense averaging 14.1 points per game and tallied a season-high 22 points against Saint Anselm. 
  • Abou Gbane is averaging 11.9 points per game and tallied a season-high 16 points against Edinboro.

  • As a team, they are averaging 81.9 points per game and are averaging 42.3 rebounds, and 16.9 assists per game. 
  • Matt Turner leads the offense averaging 14.8 points per game and tallied a season-high 25 points against Southern Connecticut State University.
  • Malcolm Moye is averaging 12.1 points per game and tallied a season-high 21 points against Post University.
