Men’s Basketball Continues Battle of the Knights Affair

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team wraps up the fall semester with back-to-back non-conference games beginning on Friday (Dec. 16) evening as the Golden Knights of The College of Saint Rose come to town.
 
The fall semester concludes on Monday (Dec. 19) afternoon as St. Michael's College Purple Knights visit Flushing for the first time since the 2010-11 season. 
 
Scouting the Knights
  • The Knights are 4-6 overall on the season and in the middle of a two-game losing skid.
    • They are coming off of back-to-back losses to Roberts Wesleyan (Friday, 12/9) and Bridgeport (Sunday, 12/11) last week.
  • Queens is averaging 68.5 points per game on 40.8 shooting and are averaging 41.4 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game. 
    • Free throw shooting continues to hamper the Knights as they are shooting 65.7% on the year for 136-207 on the season. 
  • Sophomore Sunnie Diamond (Hiram, GA) leads the offense averaging 14.6 points per game and recorded a career-high 21 points in the victory over Daemen. 
    • Diamond recorded the Knights first triple-double of the season in the victory over Alliance and the first triple-double since the 15-16 season. 
  • While senior William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) is averaging 11.4 points per game and recorded a season-high 22 points in the victory over Holy Family. 
  • Senior Tyler Carey (Bay Shore, N.Y.)  is averaging 11.1 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game. 
    • The senior has tallied four double-doubles on the season, including three in the last four games with a career-best and ECC season-high 17 rebounds.
  • On Monday (Dec. 5), The East Coast Conference office awarded Carey Defensive Player of the Week, while Diamond a honor roll spot on the fourth Men's Basketball Weekly Report of the Year. Link
    • Diamond has earned a spot on the ECC Honor Roll Sheet (11/14, 11/28)
    • Ellis earned an ECC Honor Roll spot on Nov. 21.
  • On Tuesday (Dec. 6) Carey earned MBWA DII/III Honorable Mention Link
  • Friday's meeting against Saint Rose will be the 20th meeting in program history and the first meeting since the 1998-99 season. 
    • Queens is 2-17 overall against their former conference opponents with the last win coming during the 1997-98 season at home.
  • Monday's matchup against Saint Michael's will be the seventh meeting in program history and the first one since November 9, 2013.
    • The Knights are 3-3 overall and will be looking for their win over the Purple Knights since the 2011-12 season. 
    • The last home game against Saint Michael's came back on 12/19/2010 which saw the Knights emerge victorious with an 81-72 victory.

Scouting The College of Saint Rose
  • The Golden Knights are 6-6 on the season and are coming off a 96-72 loss to Southern Connecticut State University.
  • Saint Rose is averaging 74.0 points per game on 44.6% shooting, 39.3 rebounds, and 14.5 assists per game.  
  • Shane O'Dell leads the offense averaging 15.8 points per game and tallied a season-high 22 points against Dominican (11/13).

Scouting the Purple Knights
  • St. Michael's enters Queens 6-5 overall on the season and in the middle of a four-game losing streak. 
    • The Purple Knights will match up against Mercy on Saturday (Dec. 17) before facing the Knights on Monday. 
  • As a team, they are averaging 71.1 points per game on 39.4% shooting, 38.5 rebounds, and 13.8 assists per game. 
  • CJ Crews leads the offense averaging 13.1 points per game and has tallied a season-high 23 points against New Haven (Nov. 16).

  • Head coach Matt Collier and the Knights return to action after the New Year as they return to East Coast Conference action to conclude their five-game homestand on Wednesday (Jan. 4) evening as the Lions of Molloy University come to town. Tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
