AMHERST, N.Y. – The Queens College women's basketball team concluded their Upstate New York trip against Daemen College Wildcats Sunday afternoon at Lumsden Gymnasium.
Unfortunately, the Knights' offense never got going as they were unable to build on Friday night victory as they fell 80-43 to the Wildcats in East Coast Conference action.
How it Happened
Queens struggled in the opening quarter as they shot a season-low 15.38 percent (2-of-13 FG) from the field and were trailing by 20, 24-4 after the first quarter. The Knights would improve in the second quarter but with the Wildcats shooting over 40 percent from the field, Queens was unable to cut into the deficit.
Queens would outscore Daemen in the third quarter 17-14 shooting 38.5 percent (5-of-13 FG) from the field. Sophomore
Aalia Carlson (Montclair, N.J.) scored a team-high 10 points in the third quarter as the Knights ended the quarter on an 10-2 run, their best scoring run of the game.
But early shooting struggles in the game would be too much for the inexperienced Knights squad to overcome as they concluded the trip with a 1-1 record with an 80-43 loss to Daemen.
By the Numbers
Carlson led the Knights with a team-high 13 points (3-of-11 FG, 3-of-6 3PT) with three rebounds. While junior
Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied 12 points (6-of-17 FG), her sixth double-digit performance of the season.
While freshman
Jennah DeGout (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied six points (3-of-5 FG) with a team-high eight rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
Queens shot season-low 28.1 percent (16-of-57) from the field and 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from beyond the arc. While Daemen shot 43.8 percent (32-of-73) from the field and 28.6 percent (10-of-35) from three.
UP NEXT: Attention shifts to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. as Queens takes on another undefeated ECC team in the Mercy College Mavericks (8-6 overall, 6-0 ECC) Wednesday evening. Tip-off set for 5:00 p.m.
