MILTON, N.Y. – On Sunday morning, the Queens College men's and women's cross country program returned to the courses as they took part in the Mount Saint Mary College XC Series at Hudson Valley Sports Dome.
Among the Division II competing in the women's 6K, the Knights placed first beating out East Coast Conference foe the University of Bridgeport, and regional foes Dominican College (N.Y.).
Overall the women's team finished in third among the 15 teams competing.
While the men's side placed first edging out Bloomfield College, University of Bridgeport, and Dominican College (N.Y.). Among the 20 teams, the Knights finished sixth on the day.
Women's 6K
Sophomore
Alexis Hall (West River, MD) paced the women's side with a top 15
th finish with a time of 29:03.1. While freshman
Nicole Colombi (Wantagh, N.Y.) competing for the first time this season finished 20
th with a time of 31:20.0 to round the top 20.
Finishing 23
rd was freshman
Natalia Cuttler (Islip, N.Y.) with a time of 31:43.8. while teammate
Fatima Morrobel (Long Beach, N.Y.) finished in 33.06.8 to place 31
st. To round the top 50 places
Favour Onyinyechi Anyalewechi (Lagos, Nigeria) placed 46
th in 37:13.3.
Men's 8K
While men's team was paced by graduate student
Njehan Phillip (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who placed 10
th with a time of 29:31.4 to lead the Knights to first place. Junior
Steven Cuascut (Queens Village, N.Y.) would narrowly miss the top 20 finish as he placed 21st with a time of 30:45.0.
Freshman
Tristan Alvarez-Gamboa (
Ontario, California) made his debut as the Californian native finished 74
th with a time of 36:25.5. while freshman
Andrew O'Gorman (Melville, N.Y.) was not too far behind as he placed 76
th with a time of 37:19.6.
The Knights would get their fifth top 100 finish as freshman
Valeriy Borkun (White Plains, N.Y.) finished the course just under 40 minutes with a time of 39:53.5, while
Keith Hyland (Levittown, N.Y.) rounded the Knights afternoon with a time of 43:30.0.
Head coach Robert Davis Post Meet Comment: "we had a great second meet as everyone put forth the best effort. I'm happy about the win and this finish is just the steppingstone that we needed as we prepare for the ECC Championship next month."
UP NEXT: Both programs return to the course on Saturday (Oct. 2) as they take part in the Highlander XC Challenge from Newark, N.J. The first course is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. from Branch Brook Park.
