CHEYNEY, Pa. (Jan. 26, 2020) – In its final tune-up before the second half of conference play commences, the Queens College men's basketball team went on a 40-9 run over the final thirteen minutes of the opening half on Sunday (Jan. 26) to take down Cheyney University by a final score of 100-44.
The Knights move to 5-15 on the season with the win inside Alfred Cope Hall; the host Wolves are now 1-16 on the season.
Junior guard
Elijah Bovell had 14 points in the first half for Queens as the Knights went 19-for-33 (57%) from the field and 7-of-14 (50%) from beyond the three-point line in the opening twenty minutes. Queens was also a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line in the first half.
The Knights were tied with the Wolves at 14-all on account of a jumper by Cheyney senior Cliff St. Juste with 12:49 to play in the half. From there, Queens went on its run as
Keenan Gorski book-ended an 8-2 mini-spurt with a pair of three-pointers to put QC up by a 22-17 score. The Knights scored the next 18 points in the contest over a span of six-and-a-half minutes to earn a 40-17 advantage and took a 54-23 lead into the halftime break.
Gorski finished the contest with a game-high 24 points, hitting six three-pointers and making 9-of-11 from the field overall. Bovell had 21 points in the win while
Shomari Redd played an all-around strong contest with six points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Dwayne Henry Jr. and
David Grady III combined to score 23 points as well, with Henry also adding ten assists to his 13 points.
Wayne Li poured in 11 points and 10 rebounds while
Samuel Saint-Juste had seven points in the second half for the Knights.
Queens dominated all facets of the game, enjoying a plus-23 (43-20) advantage on the rebounding glass and scoring 33 points off of Cheyney's 21 turnovers.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday (Feb. 1) as Queens plays host to Bridgeport at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m.
