FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2020) – Despite 17 points from
Elijah Bovell and a 14-point performance off the bench by
Keenan Gorski, the Queens College men's basketball team never held a lead in the squad's 92-65 loss to Bridgeport on Saturday (Feb. 1) at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
The Knights fell to 5-14 with the loss and 3-6 in East Coast Conference play; Bridgeport, meanwhile, improved to 17-2 on the season and a perfect 9-0 in league action with the Purple Knights earning their 13
th consecutive victory.
Bridgeport led by a 9-0 score after the first media timeout, with Queens going 0-for-10 from the field to start the contest. That would set the immediate tone for the game the rest of the way, with the visitors holding a 46-21 halftime lead. Bridgeport finished the game shooting 46% (37-80) from the floor while Queens hit just 22-of-57 (39%) from the field in the contest. Bovell went 7-for-20 from the floor and had six assists and five rebounds in the effort.
Tyrese Crosdale added 12 points and nine rebounds and Gorski was 4-for-5 from the floor including three three-pointers.
Hashem Abbas had 20 of his game-high 22 points in the first half, adding 10 rebounds in the victory. D'Vonne Trumbo had 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists while Bakary Camara added 17 points and seven boards in the win.
The contest was part of the East Coast Conference's Officials Appreciation Week, with a pregame ceremony being held to honor the three officials for the contest.
Queens will return to action on Friday (Feb. 7) as the Knights host Roberts Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
