Matthews Dishes Out 21 Assists as Volleyball Opens Conference Play Versus Bridgeport Saturday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2019) - The Queens College women's volleyball team opened East Coast Conference competition on Saturday (Sept. 28) by hosting the University of Bridgeport at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. The Knights fell into a 7-0 hole in the opening set as Bridgeport would claim the match in three sets by final scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-19. Bridgeport improved to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in ECC play with the win while Queens dropped to 1-8 on the season and 0-1 in conference action.

Knights That Shined
  • Alisha Matthews had a strong performance as the junior setter posted a 21-assist match to go along with three digs.
  • The Knights were led on offense by a ten-kil outing from Dee-Ana Mitchell on a .368 hitting percentage and six kills from Briana Green.
  • Alexis Deodat turned in one of her best performances so far on the young season with four kills (on a .500 hitting clip) and six block assists. The Knights posted eight total blocks in the match with sixteen block assists overall.
  • Danielle Naggar led the effort on defense with a team-high nine digs.

Queens will begin its Western New York swing on Friday (Oct. 4) with a 7 p.m. showdown against Roberts Wesleyan at the Voller Athletic Center in Rochester.
