FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2019) - A win for the Queens College men's tennis team in the back-draw of 'B' singles and finals appearances in the 'A' doubles draws highlighted the success for the Knights at the Hofstra Invitational Saturday (Sept. 21) in Hempstead.
Mariano Biblioni claimed the victory for the Knights in the 'B' singles draw after losing his first match of competition Friday (Sept. 20) to St. John's Igor Mashlov by an 8-6 decision. Biblioni went on to win three straight matches, including an 8-3 semi-final triumph against teammate
Hugo Evangelista de Andrade on his way to knocking off Daniel Blasco of St. Francis College Brooklyn in the consolation final by an 8-1 score.
Kareem Rashad and
Moritz Borges were back-draw semi-finalists in the 'A' singles competition but could not advance to the final while
Francisco Gonzalez posted a strong Friday showing on his way to the 'C' singles semi-finals where he lost to eventual runner-up Jun Sasagawa of host Hofstra.
In 'A' doubles competition, the team of Rashad and Biblioni knocked off three Division I tandems to reach the finals of their section before losing to top-seed Charlie James and Ignacio Garcia of St. John's by a 6-4 score. Meanwhile, the team of
Eduardo Marino and
Lucas Demuth made the 'A' consolation final before falling to Siena's Guillermo Torres and Tomas Del Olmo by a 6-4 score as well.
