FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 21, 2019) – It was a night of celebrations and revelry at the 2019 Queens College Athletics and Recreation Awards banquet on Monday (May 20), with the event being held on campus in the ballroom of the Student Union.
The evening, deemed as a Casino-themed gala with the underlying theme of the NCAA's slogan of "Don't Bet on It," celebrated the highlights of the 2018-19 athletic year for the Knights in all sports with teams in attendance to cheer on their teammates and fellow student-athletes in earning awards throughout the course of the evening.
The night, which was emceed by
Clivensky Etienne of the track and field team as well as
Danielle Clarke of the women's swimming team, culminated with the end-of-year department awards; athletes were chosen from across the spectrum of the sports for Outstanding Rookie, Outstanding Senior, Most Improved, Most Valuable and the premier Silver Knight awards.

The department also recognized the winners of the re-christened Knights Cup, with the men's tennis team claiming the trophy. The squad earned a total of 551 points through means of athletic performance, academic prowess and community service initiatives through the course of the season. The men's track and field team took second place with 365 total points and women's tennis rounded out the top-three by compiling 329 total points.

The final award of the evening, the Patrick Parker Award, was presented to
Dennis Buckstein of the QC baseball team. With Parker's family on hand, Buckstein was lauded as the clear-cut embodiment of what the Patrick Parker Award personifies: a student-athlete who is "driven, goal-oriented, dedicated to their fellow student and sport, supportive, loyal, humble and selfless."
