Softball Cain Named ECC Player of the Week; Salgado Earns Rookie Honors

COLONIA, N.J. – On the third East Coast Conference weekly report of the season, two Queens College softball student-athletes earned conference recognition. Junior infielder Kadie Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y.) aptured her first Player of the Week honor, while rookie infielder Rachel Salgado (Brentwood, N.Y.) was named Rookie of the Week.

Player of the Week

Cain opened her 2026 season batting .538 with a 1.076 OPS, posting a .538 on-base percentage and .538 slugging percentage. The Hauppauge native recorded seven hits, scored one run, and went a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts. Cain tallied three multi-hit games, highlighted by a season-best 3-for-4 performance with one run scored against Clarion.

Rookie of the Week

Salgado made a strong debut for the Knights during their four games at THE Spring Games, batting .429 with a 1.143 OPS, including a .714 slugging percentage and .429 on-base percentage. She recorded three hits, including a triple, while driving in one run and scoring once. In her first career start, Salgado delivered a multi-hit performance against Wayne State (Neb.), going 2-for-3 with a triple, one run scored, and one RBI.

Next Pitch

The Knights continue their trip on Wednesday as they take on the Czech Republic National Team, Prague in an exhibition game before matching up against Northwood University. First pitch is set for 10:00 am.
