FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 21, 2019) – The athletic programs at Queens College were not only competing for the East Coast Conference, Metropolitan Conference and regional championships this season. The Knights were also competing against themselves for bragging rights as the Athletics and Recreation Department reinstated the Knights Cup for the 2018-2019 season.

The teams were judged based upon a set of five criteria that included participation and attendance in home events, academic progress reporting, community service initiatives, athletic victories (which were categorized into point totals based upon win percentages) and overall awards with various point totals for conference, regional and national team honors.

The men's tennis team walked away with the Knights Cup at the end-of-year awards banquet on Monday (May 20) with Head Coach Somadi Druker and her squad amassing a total of 551 points to easily claim the trophy. The team had the best grade-point average of all the programs and swept the board with the most points in community service (96), athletic victories (105) and overall awards (315). The men's tennis squad had four All-Conference nominations, four ITA East Region accolades as well as an ECC Championship, an NCAA Tournament victory and a slew of regular-season weekly awards to accrue the trophy.

The men's track and field team finished in second place with 365 points in total followed by the women's tennis team with 329 points. Women's cross country (275 points) and baseball (214 points) rounded out the top-five.
