FLUSHING. N.Y. (Apr. 24, 2019) - A three-run first inning from the visitors meant that the Queens College baseball team would be playing catch-up early on Wednesday (Apr. 24) and the Knights could not keep American International College from claiming a 12-5 win at Hennekens Stadium in a non-conference match-up.
AIC got on the board with a two-run double by Matt Krause and another run on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning but the Knights did get a run back on a run-scoring ground-out by
Joe O'Rourke. The Knights did get as close as a one-run deficit in the third inning as
Louis Antos doubled home a run and then scored on a wild pitch to bring Queens within a 4-3 margin. The Yellow Jackets, however, put up some more offense in the fourth, fifth and seventh inning with another two-run double by Krause putting AIC up by a 9-3 margin in the seventh. Queens scored twice in the bottom of that frame but could not bring the contest back any further.
Antos and
Jon Strauss each had a pair of hits as Queens managed a seven-hit performance against AIC starter Mason St. Pierre, who went seven innings to pick up the win for the Yellow Jackets.
Eloy Benson, meanwhile, faced just three batters in the first inning and took the loss as he surrendered three runs and one hit while walking the other two hitters at the plate.Â
Queens will jump back into conference play on Friday (Apr. 26), hosting Saint Thomas Aquinas in the opening game of a critical four-game set at Hennekens Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.Â
