MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Mar. 9, 2019) - One pitch in the bottom of the first inning was all that was needed to put the Queens College baseball team in an insurmountable hole on Saturday (Mar. 9) as the Knights fell by an 8-2 score to nineteenth-ranked Wilmington (Del.) in Miami Shores, Fla.
The Knights (4-5-1) fell behind by a 3-0 score as Eddie Nevins sent a pitch from QC starter
John Rodopoulos over the left-center field wall for a three-run blast to put Wilmington (8-4) ahead for good in the contest. The Wildcats tacked on another run in the fourth and then put up a four-spot in the seventh inning before Queens scored two runs on an error with the bases loaded in the eighth inning for their only offensive output of the contest.
The Knights could not score any runs against Wilmington starter Dan Hyatt, who tossed six shutout innings with six strikeouts and four hits allowed.
Joe O'Rourke had two hits for QC in the loss as did
Jesse Spellman, while
Ronmel Ocampo,
Matt Riselvato and
Brian Wright collected a base hit apiece.
Queens will conclude its Florida trip on Sunday (Mar. 10) with a 10:30 a.m. match-up against Southern Connecticut State at the Santaluces Athletic Complex in Lake Worth.
