Baseball Opens Florida Trip with 18-8 Loss to Concordia (N.Y.)

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 5, 2019) - The Queens College baseball team suffered an 18-8 loss on Monday (Mar. 4) to Concordia (N.Y.) in the Knights' first contest on their Florida trip. The game was played in Lake Worth, Fla. at the Santaluces Athletic Complex and was concluded after eight innings.

Queens (2-1-1) scored two runs in the opening inning as a failed pickoff attempt brought home Anthony Scotti and Jon Strauss to put the Knights ahead on the scoreboard, but the Clippers (1-6) teed off from there. Concordia scored three in the first inning, ten in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth on the Knights' pitching staff to surge ahead to an insurmountable lead.

Scotti went 2-for-3 in the lead-off spot for the Knights while Joe O'Rourke had two hits and drove in two runs in the effort. Queens collected a total of ten hits in the contest with runs being driven in as well by Eric Roubal, Matt Riselvato and Nick Font.

Mike Lamneck (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing three unearned runs in the first inning. Dimitri Papazolgou tossed two and one-thirds scoreless innings of bullpen work with four strikeouts while Eloy Benson got the final two outs on the mound and recorded his first career 'K'.

Queens will play Felician at 3 p.m. on Tuesday (Mar. 5) in another game taking place in Lake Worth.
