Men's Basketball Battles Closely with Bridgeport Saturday in ECC Action

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Dec. 21, 2019) - Junior center Wayne Li had 12 points off the bench and David Grady III led the Queens College men's basketball team with 17 points but the Knights were taken down in the second half by Bridgeport on Saturday (Dec. 21) with the final score favoring the hosts by an 83-77 margin.

Queens falls to 2-10 on the season and 1-2 in ECC play while Bridgeport improves to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in league action.

Li went 6-for-8 from the floor in 14 minutes of play for the Knights, tying his career-high point total in his third season for QC while Grady notched his total on a similar shooting percentage with the exception of going 2-for-2 from beyond the three-point line and 3-of-5 from the foul line. The sophomore forward also had a team-high eight rebounds as Kevin Buron collected 13 points and four rebounds in the effort. Junior guard Tyrese Crosdale added nine points and seven rebounds for the Knights as well.

Hashem Abbas recorded a double-double for Bridgeport with a game-high 23 points and ten rebounds as Bakary Camara added 21 points with seven boards and three steals. Juan Coffi posted ten points and five rebounds off the bench for the Purple Knights in the victory.

The game was knotted at 41-all at the halftime break and Queens took a 47-43 lead to open the second half thanks to consecutive three-pointers from Buron and Crosdale. The Knights held a 50-46 lead thanks to a Grady three-point play with two-and-a-half minutes gone by in the frame but Bridgeport went on a 7-0 run as Abbas hit a lay-up, Coffi knocked down a three-pointer and Camara converted a fast-break bucket after a D'Vonne Trumbo steal. That spurt was the kick-start to a 19-6 run from Bridgeport which would seal the deal as Queens never regained the lead in the contest.

The Knights return to action in the 2020 calendar year as QC travels to Daemen College on Jan. 10 for an 8 p.m. match-up in East Coast Conference play at Lumsden Gymnasium in Amherst, N.Y.
