Bovell Collects Eighteen Points as Men's Basketball Opens Season at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Nov. 8, 2019) - Junior guard Elijah Bovell had a game-high 18 points to lead the Queens College men's basketball team in its season-opening contest versus Adelphi University on Friday (Nov. 8) in Garden City. The Knights, however, were undone by 18 turnovers as the Panthers scored 22 points off those giveaways to surge to a 76-63 victory at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Bovell added two rebounds and a steal and shot 7-for-12 from the field, hitting 50% (4-8) of his attempts from beyond the three-point line. David Grady III chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds; the sophomore forward was five-for-eight from the floor in the effort. Shomari Redd added nine points, four rebounds and four assists; Keenan Gorski had six points and five boards while Kevin Buron hauled in a team-high eight rebounds to go along with six points. Tyrese Crosdale added five points and six rebounds off the bench for the Knights.

Ronnie Silva's 17 points and six rebounds led the way for Adelphi as Chris Coalmon had 16 points and eight boards.

After an early 5-0 lead for the host Panthers, Queens battled back to take a 13-12 lead on a Bovell jumper with six minutes gone by in the first half. The advantage was short-lived, however, as a Silva three-pointer less than a minute later triggered an 11-2 run for Adelphi that culminated in a fast-break treble from Spencer Foley to give AU a 23-15 lead with 11:30 to play in the opening stanza. QC chipped its way back into the contest on several occasions, most notably with a Crosdale three bringing the Knights within five points at 35-30 with three minutes to go. However, Adelphi ended the half on a 9-0 run to lead 44-30 going into the break; Adelphi would stretch that into a 17-4 run over the two halves to lead 52-34 with five minutes played in the second, and QC would be unable to cut the deficit to single digits after that.

Queens returns to Garden City on Saturday (Nov. 9) to face Pace University in a neutral-court contest at the Center for Recreation and Sport. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
