Volleyball Rallies to Win Five-Set Marathon Over Concordia Saturday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2019) - The Queens College volleyball team stormed back from a two-set deficit to claim a five-set victory at home over Concordia (NY) on Saturday (Oct. 19) in Fitzgerald Gymnasium. 

The Knights, who were hosting their annual Dig Pink game in Flushing, improved to 2-14 with the five-set win (23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-10) while Concordia dropped to 3-7 on the season.

Knights That Shined
  • Dee-Ana Mitchell had one of her best career games for the Knights with 16 kills and 14 digs to post a double-double on the afternoon. The sophomore boasted a .310 hitting percentage on the outside for QC.
  • Senior Lauren Kehoe collected 13 kills to go along with a team-high 20 digs. Kehoe also had four service aces and three block assists in the victory.
  • Briana Green was stellar in the middle with 11 kills and a .400 hitting percentage; her counterpart, Alexis Deodathad eight kills and nine digs with seven total blocks.
  • Directing the attack was Alisha Matthews and the junior setter had her best game in a Knights uniform with a career-high 44 assists to go along with 11 digs and four service aces. Matthews also put down the match-winning kill in the fifth set.
  • Genesis Soto Ruiz led Queens with five service aces and also added 13 digs with four kills; Danielle Naggar shined at the libero spot with 17 digs as well.
  • Maryjane D'Agostino and Jessica Yin played pivotal defense late to help the Knights overcome the deficit to earn the victory.

Queens will travel to Connecticut on Tuesday (Oct. 22) to face Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference showdown at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
