STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2019) -
Pavan Bhat collected two eighth-place finishes for the Queens College men's track and field team on Friday (Jan. 18) as the Knights competed against another strong field of athletes at the New York City Gotham Cup on Staten Island.
One week after taking part in the Spartan Invitational at Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex, the Knights found themselves taking on Division I opponents such as UMBC and Hartford while also competing against amateur track clubs as well. In the field, Bhat was the star of the show for Queens College with an eighth-place showing in both the high jump (1.89 meters) and the long jump (6.81 meters). His effort was matched by
Andrew Saulpaugh's eighth-place finish in the weight throw, as the sophomore continued his strong campaign with a toss of 15.10 meters.
Lenz St'Vil completed the 60-meter dash in 7.23 seconds to finish in 31st place for QC while
Pablo Hernandez finished the mile in a 32nd-place time of 4:38.76.
Daniel Thomas also posted a strong finish in the 400-meter dash with a 36th-place time of 52.45s.
On the women's side,
Diana Cruz had a 25th-place run in the 800-meter discipline (2:27.67) after a 33rd-place time of 1:00,54 in the 400-meter dash.
Isabella Allocco was 22nd in the weight throw, tossing her mark at 12.34 meters.
The Knights do not compete again until Feb. 8 as the team heads back to Ocean Breeze for the FastTrack National Invitational.
