Volleyball Drops ECC Opener At NYIT

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Queens College volleyball team fell to unbeaten NYIT in three sets Tuesday evening in its East Coast Conference opener.

In the opening set, the Bears led throughout and came away with a 25-22 victory.  In set two, the Knights erased a four point deficit to grab a three point lead, 12-9, before NYIT came away with 16 of the final 22 points to take the stanza 25-18.

In the third and final set, Queens grabbed an early 10-4 advantage prompting a Bears timeout.  A 14-4 run by NYIT followed to give the home team a four point advantage before it secured the set 25-18.

Senior Arielle DiCocco and freshman Nicoletta DiCocco each contributed a team high eight kills in the contest.  Junior Tori Bowser was credited with five kills and two blocks.   A. DiCocco also posted eight digs while senior Xhesi Domi registered a team best 11.  Sophomore Jessica Yin recorded 18 assists for the Knights.

For the Bears, Karolina Moderova posted a game high 14 kills in the match, while Becky Syers had 13 digs and Allison Fowler had 28 assists.

Queens continues league play Thursday evening against Dowling at home.  First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
