Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College men's tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season with an 8-1 triumph over Bloomfield College from the tennis bubble in Flushing, on Wednesday. The Knights took two of three doubles matches and swept the singles flights.
QC got two points in doubles with a pair of wins. The team of Ryan Frankel and Sharville Nawghre won at second position, 8-0. The pairing of Lucas Martinez and Federico Toscano also were victorious by the same, 8-0 mark. The grouping of Christopher Baron and Gabriel Mendez lost at first doubles, 8-6.
In singles play, Adam Pizow made his season debut for Queens, winning from the sixth-spot, 6-0 and 6-0. Mendez came out ahead in the fifth slot by the same love and love score. Frankel, playing at third singles, only dropped one game; en route to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph. Martinez prevailed 6-2, 6-2. Nawghre won a hard-fought match at second singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. Baron also won a close one, using a tiebreaker in the second set to prevail 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
The Queens College men's tennis team returns to action on Wednesday, March 25, when they host the top team in the East Coast Conference, NYIT. The match, which is a meeting of two of the top teams in the conference, is slated to get underway at 11:30 AM.
