FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's tennis team improved to 7-0 during the fall season with its 7-2 win over the Eagles of Post University on Thursday.
As has been the norm this season, the Knights prevailed because of the team's strong depth. Queens won all three doubles matches on the day beginning with Andrea Samson and Sumeera Kamil's 8-6 victory over Post's first team of Liza Dubrouskaya and Madison Young. Juniors Angelika Sobiecka and Camelia Abdallah continued their unblemished start in No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win over Diana Perez and Briana Miab, improving to 7-0 at the position. Meanwhile, the freshmen duo of Line Aasen and Anne Strating also won their match, 8-6, and now stand at 7-0 in 3rd doubles.
In singles competition, Queens College secured victories in matches three through six with Samson leading the way. The senior from Key Biscayne, Fl., won her No. 3 match over Young, 6-2, 6-2. Building off last week's performance that earned her mention on the East Coast Conference Weekly Honor Roll, Abdallah followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in the fourth slot. Freshman Frederike Börner blanked her opponent as well, winning 6-0, 6-0, in the day's fifth match. With the results, all three moved to 7-0 in match play this season.
Junior Nakia Miller defeated Jessica Bergen in the sixth singles match of the day, 6-4, 4-6 (10-6). Head coach Alan Nagel said he was impressed by his team's overall play against a quality Post University team that previously had an eight-game winning streak and was ranked third in the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference heading into the matchup.
The Knights return to action at home against conference foes Molloy College next Saturday, Oct. 17, during Homecoming Weekend at Queens College. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
