Volleyball Stopped In Three Sets By NYIT

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Queens College volleyball team fell in three sets to NYIT Tuesday evening in ECC league action.  Set scores were 22-25, 15-25 and 20-25.

For the Knights, seniors Else Buchmiller and Arielle DiCocco each posted a team high six kills.  Sophomore Jessica Yin had 22 assists, while senior Xhesi Domi had nine digs.

Karolina Moderova posted 14 kills to lead NYIT, while Emily Mankowski had 11 kills of her own.  Allison Fowler registered 32 assists, while Tina Stefanovic had 16 digs.  Becky Syers has eight digs and four aces for the Bears.

The Knights posted an early 7-3 lead in the first set, before a 4-0 run by NYIT evened the contest.  With QC ahead 19-14 late in the set, NYIT scored six straight to take a one point lead.  The Knights countered with three straight for a 22-20 advantage before the Bears scored the final five points for the three point win.

Using the momentum of the first set, NYIT jumped out to a quick 13-5 edge in the second set.  The Bears extended their lead to 19-11, before ending the contest on a 6-4 rush.

In the third set, the two teams traded early runs resulting in a 5-5 stalemate. a 7-3 run by the Bears gave the road team a 13-9 lead.  The Knights trimmed the lead to 22-20 later in the set, before NYIT posted the set's final three points.

QC is back in action Thursday evening at Dowling for a 7:00 pm start.
