Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College men's tennis team pulled out an impressive, 5-4 victory over Stonehill on Sunday from the tennis bubble in Flushing. The team is now 7-1 on the season.
The Skyhawks, who made an appearance in the NCAA championship last season, lost their first match to an opponent outside the state of Florida and are now 8-3 on the year.
The Knights won three singles matches to capture three points. Younes Hidass won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, coming from behind in the second set. Christopher Baron dominated his opponent by winning, 6-1, 6-0. Finally, Andre Pellegrino got the third singles point with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph.
QC won the match with two more victories in doubles. The team of Pellegrino and Baron won 8-3, and remained undefeated in doubles competiiton against Division II opponents this year. Hidass and Burgess trailed 6-4 in their doubles match before rallying to win 9-7.
The Queens College men's tennis team is 4-0 in Division II play and they won three out four matches by a 5-4 score. The team returns to action on Friday, March 28, when they travel to Sparkill, New York to face St. Thomas Aquinas.
