Flushing, N.Y. - Under ideal running conditions, the Knights Men's track team clinched the inaugural East Coast Conference Outdoor Championship.
Day 1 of the Tournament started Saturday at Farmingdale State College where sophomore Tyler Bay was first to cross the finish line in the 10,000 meter race with a time of 33:50.28.
Field events capped off the day as freshman Angel Alers-Rosario finished first in the Discus (46.20m) and Hammer Throw (48.76m) also finishing fourth in the Shot Put. Junior Vincent Fratto contributed by winning the Shot Put (14.65m), placing second in Discus and fourth in the Hammer. Junior Kerome Bramwell finished second in the Javelin. Senior Max Gazzara also placed third in the 10,000 and freshman Liam O'Connor came in third in the shot put, third in the discus and sixth in the hammer.
Queens College trailed Molloy 85 to 83 going into Day 2 at Queens College. The runners brought a solid effort on their home track on Sunday. The Knights biggest contributions came from Kurt Samuel winning the 800 meter with a time of 1:54.61. Senior Joseph Mayer placing fourth in the 1500 meter race with a time of 4:07.57. Freshman Nick Harran placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles and second in the 110 meter high hurdles. Tyler Bay also doubled as Champion winning the 5,000 meter run with support from Junior Peter Kramer finishing second and Max Gazzara finishing fourth.
After the 5,000 meter run only 7 points separated Queens College from second place St. Thomas Aquinas with two events remaining. The Knights second place in the 4x800 relay sealed the Championship so the final event, 4x400 meter relay, would only having to finish the race to cement the victory.
QC won the championship by one point, 165 to St. Thomas Aquinas 164.
