Queens Volleyball Loses to LIU Post in Four Hard-Fought Sets

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College Knights volleyball team lost to LIU Post in four hard-fought sets from the auxiliary gym on the campus of Queens College on Saturday. The scores of the sets were 25-23, 18-25, 25-16, and 25-21. 

In set one, the Knights trailed by as many as six points, at 17-11, when they rattled off six out of seven points to even the score at 18-18.  Else Buchmiller's strong serving carried the Knights through the scoring spree.  Later in the set, Ceren Kilic set up Arielle DiCocco for a kill  that tied the score at 22-22, but the Pioneers scored of the next four to take the opening set, 25-23.

The Knights took set two by the score of 25-18. In set two, both teams battled back and forth and shared the lead twice.  With the score tied at 11-11, Queens used a 7-2 run to take and 18-13 lead.  The outburst was keyed by the serving of Francesca Indoni.  At 18-13, QC closed out the set with a 7-5 run, the final point coming from a MacKenzie Hamilton kill off a set from Kilic.

In the third set, Queens couldn't overcome two LIU Post rallies that gave the Pioneers a 25-16 set victory.   The fourth set, like the others, was highly competitive. Though Post pulled out a 25-21 fourth-set victory, the Knights matched up with Post point-for-point thanks in part to Arielle DiCocco's four kills (eight for the match). 

Defensively, Xhesi Domi led the squad with 21 digs in the contest, allowing QC to remain close against the undefeated Pioneers, who move to 5-0 in conference play on the season.  Kilic posted her second straight double-double with 28 assists and 10 digs. 

The Queens College volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday, October 8th, when they face NYIT at 7 PM in Old Westbury, N.Y.
