BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The 24th-ranked Queens College men's tennis team won two out of three doubles matches Monday afternoon at No. 7 Concordia College, but was unable to carry the momentum to victory as the host Clippers walked away with a 6-3 decision.
The senior tandem of Claudio Andrade (Sete Lagoas, Brazil) and Tyrone Ewels (Pietermartizburg, S. Africa) defeated Ricardo Frey and Tomasz Olfans at No. 2 by an 8-1 score, while classmates Diego Medrano (Cucuta, Colombia) and Jesse Smith (New York, N.Y.) bested Mark Mozer and David Tisserand by an 8-4 count in the No. 3 flight, giving the Knights a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
Sophomore Andre Pellegrino (Sao Paolo, Brazil) won his match at No. 4 singles for QC, as he used a three-set battle to knock off Olfans, 7-5, 6-7 and 6-1.
Head coach Craig Schwartz's Knights get back into East Coast Conference play at home Tuesday afternoon, as they welcome Saint Thomas Aquinas College for a 1:30 p.m. first serve in Flushing.
