FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College men's tennis team, ranked No. 24 nationally in the most-recent Campbell's/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II poll, kicked off the Spring 2012 portion of its schedule Friday morning at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center against Division I neighbor, St. John's University. The Knights picked up two out of three doubles matches to secure one team point, but were unable to get untracked in singles play, falling to the Red Storm by a 6-1 count.

Senior Attila Toth (Budapest, Hungary) and junior Nikolaj Wulff (Munich, Germany), the No. 15-ranked doubles team in Division II, won their No. 1 doubles flight by an 8-5 score over SJU's Vasko Mladenov and Valentin Mihai. Meanwhile, seniors Claudio Andrade (Sete Lagoas, Brazil) and Diego Medrano (Cucuta, Colombia) wrapped up QC's doubles point by earning an identical 8-5 victory in the No. 3 flight versus the Red Storm pair of Mike Lampa and Kurt Anbarci.

In singles play, Toth (No. 17 nationally in Div. II) got up by a 5-2 count against Division I, 29th-ranked Mladenov in the first set, before succumbing by a 7-5, 6-3 score.

Head coach Craig Schwartz's Knights are next in action Feb. 25, when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College for a 7:30 p.m., non-conference first serve.
