BRONX, N.Y. – The Queens College men's tennis team, ranked No. 26 in the Campbell's/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Poll, geared up for next week's NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships with a 6-1 victory at Division I Fordham on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights (18-5) took five out of six doubles matches, and secured the doubles point by taking two out of three matches, as well.
The tandem of Atilla Toth and Nikolaj Wulff scored an 8-4 decision at No. 1 doubles versus the Rams' (4-18) Nick Kelly and Austin Shoup. The visiting Knights secured the doubles point when Diego Medrano and David Burstein dispatched Andriy Kulak and Dan Kane-West, 8-2, at the No. 3 flight.
In singles action, Medrano and Burstein took out Kulak and Kevin Mahoney by identical 6-1, 6-1 decisions at the No. 3 and 4 flights, respectively. Toth used a second-set tiebreaker to move past Shoup in the No. 1 flight, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-3 in tiebreaker), while Wulff registered a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 singles versus Alex DeRienzo. Freshman Andre Pellegrino rounded out the Queens individual winners, taking out Ken Fukomoto by a 6-4, 6-1 score in the No. 5 flight.
