QUEENS VILLAGE, N.Y. – The 26th-ranked Queens College men's tennis team will look to capture back-to-back East Coast Conference Championship titles, as the top-seeded Knights (16-5) handled fourth-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas, 5-0, in semifinals action Wednesday morning at the Alley Pond Tennis Center.
QC will face off against second-seeded District of Columbia, a 6-3 winner versus third-seeded Dowling, Thursday morning at NYIT in Old Westbury, N.Y. First serve is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
The Knights pushed through with triumphs in all three doubles matches to start the morning, including identical 8-2 victories by the tandems of Fabio Minami and Andre Pellegrino (versus Antoine Venard and Prince Silva), and Diego Medrano and David Burstein (against Dan Maysonet and Lakshya Keshwani) in the No. 2 and 3 flights, respectively. The No. 1 doubles contingent of Atilla Toth and Nikolaj Wulff registered an 8-4 win versus Armando Estevez and Nick Cittadino to give QC the sweep.
Medrano toppled Keshwani by a 6-1, 6-love count in the No. 3 singles slot, before Jesse Smith picked up a 6-love, 6-1 decision over Silva at No. 5 singles, to secure the semifinals victory for Queens.
