ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 37 Queens College men's tennis team pushed three singles matches to three sets and forced a tiebreaker in one other, but could not overcome host No. 12 Flagler, Wednesday afternoon, as the Knights dropped a 7-2 decision in their second day of competition in the Sunshine State.
Senior David Burstein was the lone singles winner for QC (6-3), as he took home a hard-fought, three-set triumph at No. 6 singles versus Uriel Oquendo, 5-7, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker). 51st-ranked Atilla Toth went three sets before succumbing to seventh-ranked David Cotrone (3-6, 6-2, 6-3), while Fabio Minami also went the distance before dropping a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 match to Gino Ramirez of Flagler.
Toth teamed up with Nikolaj Wulff at No. 2 doubles to capture an 8-2 decision over Oquendo and Harry Snoxell.
Head coach Craig Schwartz will look to lead his Queens side to victory Thursday afternoon, when it travels for a 3 p.m. first serve at No. 6 Rollins.
