No. 37 Men's Tennis Narrowly Falls to Division I Monmouth, 5-4

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Saturday afternoon's men's tennis match between Queens College, ranked No. 37 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Poll, and Division-I Monmouth came down to a third-set tiebreaker in the final match. In the end, it was the visiting Hawks who persevered and captured a hard-fought, 5-4 decision.

In the deciding match with the team score tied at 4-4, QC's Fabio Minami battled point for point with Monmouth's Amar Subasic. Minami took the first set by a 6-2 score, before succumbing to Subasic in set number two, 7-5. The third and deciding set was tied at 6-all, and went to the tiebreaker, where Subasic captured a 7-4 decision to clinch the match for the Hawks.

51st-ranked Atilla Toth scored a 6-love, 7-5 decision for the Knights at No. 1 singles over Laurence Heads, while David Burstein (6-love, 6-love over Ian Terpilowski) and Jesse Smith (7-5, 6-2 over Steve Suboleski) captured victories for Queens at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Burstein teamed with Diego Medrano for QC's lone doubles victory, winning by an 8-6 decision at No. 3 over the Hawks' Subasic and Suboleski.

Head coach Craig Schwartz will now take his Queens side to the Sunshine State for its annual Florida trip, where it will face five-consecutive, nationally ranked Division II opponents – beginning with No. 7 Florida Southern, Tuesday at 3 p.m.
