Volleyball Comeback Comes Up Just Short at C.W. Post

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Queens College volleyball team came back from two sets down to force a fifth and deciding stanza Thursday night at Pratt Recreation Center, but the visiting Knights were unable to overcome host C.W. Post in the East Coast Conference match-up, falling by a score of 3-2 (26-24, 25-19, 17-25, 23-25, 16-14).

Senior middle blocker Jovana Pavlovic (Belgrade, Serbia) put down a match-high 26 kills on .367 hitting for QC (8-18, 3-10 ECC), while chipping in with two blocks and 19 digs. Junior outside hitter Suzanne Byrne (Richmond, B.C.) added a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs, while senior setter Stephanie Schroeder (Lynbrook, N.Y.) registered the team's first triple-double of the season with 11 kills, 27 assists and 11 digs.

Queens posted more kills (63-60), aces (6-5) and points (75-74) on the night, nearly avenging a five-set defeat at the hands of the Pioneers (16-14, 7-6 ECC) in Fitzgerald Gymnasium, Oct. 11.

Pavlovic and Schroeder will be honored as part of Senior Night ceremonies next Tuesday (Nov. 8), when head coach Leanna Taylor's Knights close out the 2011 campaign with a 7 p.m., ECC contest against University of Bridgeport at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
