OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker, Jovana Pavlovic put down 10 kills on an error-free .417 hitting percentage Tuesday night at Recreation Hall, as the Queens College volleyball team fell in an East Coast Conference match at NYIT, 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 29-27).

The Knights (2-8, 0-4 ECC) also received a .333 hitting percentage (5-1-12) from senior Stephanie Schroeder (Lynbrook, N.Y.), who added 13 assists and five digs. Sophomore Ceren Kilic (Istanbul, Turkey) filled the stat sheet with six kills, 10 assists and seven digs, while junior Suzanne Byrne (Richmond, B.C.) posted a team-best 13 digs on defense. Freshman Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) led all players with four blocks (two solo).

NYIT (11-5, 5-1 ECC) outhit Queens by a .235-.117 count, while holding a 10-2 edge in service aces. The hosts jumped out to a 12-6 lead in set one, before QC pulled to within 15-10 on a kill by Pavlovic. From there, the Bears went on a set-ending 10-2 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Another Pavlovic kill gave Queens a 5-3 lead in set two, before each team exchanged 3-0 runs. Of the six ties in the set, the latest occurred at 12-12 – where NYIT went on a 4-1 mini-run to take the lead for good.

Neither side led by more than three points in the third and deciding set, with the Knights marching back from a 22-19 deficit to score three consecutive points (including a kill by Byrne) to tie things up. From there, the two sides went point-for-point until the 27-all mark – when NYIT capitalized on two straight QC errors to close things out.

Head coach Leanna Taylor's Queens team is back in ECC action on the road Thursday night, when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., for a 7 p.m. match at Mercy.
