Saturday: Queens 9, NYIT 0

A highly competitive doubles match at the top of the flight gave QC the momentum in capturing a victory against the visting Bears (8-3). Goldsmith and Fanchin found themselves down 5-2 against USTA/ITA East Regional finalists, Sara Burinato and Gabriela Rodriguez, but fought back to earn a 9-7 victory in the No. 1 position. This victory gave Queens a sweep of the three doubles matches, as Rodionova and Chiem took out Rocio Benavent and Melanie Hoffer, 8-3, before Barber and senior Andrea Salvetova (Plzen, Czech Republic) registered an 8-love edge at No. 3 over Alexis Tyson and Chelseyann Bipat.

Goldsmith and Benavent then did battle at the top of the singles lineup, as Goldsmith won the first set, 6-1, before Benavent forced a tiebreaker with a 7-5, second-set decision. Goldsmith then gutted out a 10-7 triumph in the super tiebreaker.

Fanchin defeated Rodriguez at No. 3 singles by a 6-1, 6-2 score, while Chiem took out Hoffer at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-1. Celi won by a 6-1, 6-love decision at No. 5 versus Tyson, while Salvetova used identical 6-love scores to defeat Bipat in the No. 6 flight.
