Women’s Volleyball Wraps Up Homestand Against Felician

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Concluding their homestand Thursday evening, the Queens College women's volleyball team welcomed Felician University to Fitzgerald Gymnasium for a non-conference matchup.
 
The Knights were led by rookies Zoe Sercu and Lucia Bennett, who combined for 17 kills and five blocks, but Felician earned a three-set victory over Queens.

MATCH RECAP

The Knights trailed 10-5 early in the opening set before a Felician service error sparked a 5-0 Queens run to even the score at 10-10.
 
After the Golden Falcons reclaimed a 14-12 advantage, a double block from Sercu and rookie Mikayla Haskell helped Queens string together three straight points and take a 15-14 lead.
 
Felician answered with back-to-back points to regain the lead before rookie Garnette Webb tied the set at 16-16 with a kill.
 
The teams combined for four ties and two lead changes before the Golden Falcons used a 3-0 run to create separation and secure a 25-21 first-set victory.
 
Felician controlled the second set from the outset, outhitting Queens .500 to .263 while recording 15 kills and seven service aces. The Golden Falcons claimed the set, 25-12, to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
The third set featured four ties and one lead change as the Knights mounted one of their strongest rallies of the night. With Queens trailing 8-7, Felician used a 6-1 run to build a 14-8 advantage.
 
Sercu and Haskell helped the Knights cut the deficit to two at 14-12 before Felician responded with three straight points.
 
Trailing 17-12, Queens rallied behind Sercu and Bennett, who combined for four kills during a 7-3 run that brought the Knights within one at 20-19. Felician once again answered, closing out the set, 25-22, to complete the three-set victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Sercu led the Knights with nine kills and added a career-best four blocks.
  • Bennett recorded eight kills, two digs and one block.
  • Webb finished with five kills, two blocks and one service ace.
  • Haskell added three kills and three blocks.
  • Rookie Jaslynn Daily posted a team-best 13 assists to go with six digs.

NEXT SERVE

Queens begins a seven-match road swing Saturday, Sept. 5, in New Haven, Conn., when the Knights compete in the SCSU Tri-Match against host Southern Connecticut State University and Franklin Pierce University. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
