FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning home to conclude their three-match week, the Queens College women's tennis team faced Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action for the second time in three days Friday afternoon.
After the Griffins claimed the doubles point, Queens rallied to win four consecutive singles matches, with senior
Lilie Bizouerne clinching the victory at No. 3 singles as the Knights completed the series sweep with a 5-2 victory.
With the win, Queens improves to 7-1 overall and 7-1 in CACC play.
Doubles Recap
The Griffins took an early lead at No. 3 doubles as the rookie tandem of
Elise Bosmans and
Vilte Vaitkeviciute fell, 6-3, to Tia Kaukenas and Fabienne Lahn.
Queens responded at No. 2 doubles, where sophomores
Johanne Genestay and
Ela Vasic earned a 6-4 victory over Veronika Lundgren and Milica Zagorac to even the doubles point.
However, Chestnut Hill secured the doubles point at No. 1 as the senior duo of Bizouerne and
Sixtine Goubet fell, 6-3, to Elena Guisasola and Lilian Bandel.
Singles Recap
Trailing 1-0, Queens quickly rallied in singles play as Vasic defeated Lundgren, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to even the match at 1-1.
At No. 5 singles, sophomore
Anishka Amalnathan gave the Knights their first lead of the afternoon with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Kaukenas.
Leading 2-1, Goubet moved Queens one point closer to clinching the match at No. 2 singles, defeating Zagorac, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
Bizouerne then clinched the team victory at No. 3 singles, earning a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set victory over Guisasola as the Knights secured the comeback win.
Chestnut Hill earned its second point at No. 6 singles as Vaitkeviciute fell to Lahn in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 1-6.
Genestay completed the scoring at No. 4 singles, rallying past Bandel, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, to seal the 5-2 Queens victory.
Next Match
Queens returns to the road Tuesday, Sept. 29, traveling to the Nation's Capital to close out the CACC series against the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
