WASHINGTON, DC. – Opening the week on the road in the nation's capital, the Queens College women's tennis team faced the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action Tuesday afternoon.
Queens captured the doubles point before winning five of six singles matches to complete the series sweep of the Firebirds, 6-1. Senior
Lilie Bizouerne clinched the match for the Knights with her straight-set victory at No. 3 singles.
With the victory, Queens improves to 8-1 overall and 8-1 in CACC play, becoming the first team to clinch a CACC postseason berth and securing the program's first-ever CACC postseason appearance.

With UDC unable to field a No. 3 doubles team, the sophomore-rookie tandem of
Anishka Amalnathan and
Elise Bosmans earned a default victory to put Queens on the board.
The Knights clinched the doubles point at No. 2 as sophomores
Johanne Genestay and
Ela Vasic defeated Nadja Zmukic and Sofiia Shaparenko, 6-3.
Queens completed the doubles sweep at No. 1, where the senior duo of Bizouerne and
Sixtine Goubet posted a 6-2 victory over Yelyzaveta Sylka and Mina Randjelovic.

Queens opened singles play with a default victory at No. 6, where rookie
Vilte Vaitkeviciute earned the point to extend the Knights' lead to 2-0.
Genestay followed with a straight-set victory at No. 4, defeating Janketic, 6-0, 6-2, to give Queens a 3-0 advantage.
Bizouerne then clinched the match for the Knights at No. 3 singles, cruising past Shaparenko, 6-2, 6-0.
Goubet extended the Queens lead to 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Randjelovic at No. 1 singles.
Vasic secured the Knights' sixth point of the afternoon at No. 2, defeating Sylka, 6-3, 6-4.
UDC avoided the singles sweep with a victory at No. 5, but Queens completed the 6-1 team victory and the series sweep of the Firebirds.
Next Match
Queens opens a two-match homestand on Thursday, Oct. 1, when the Knights welcome Post University to town. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
