Bosmans Clinches Thriller as Women’s Tennis Opens Season With 4-3 Win

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Opening Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play Wednesday afternoon, the Queens College women's tennis team battled Thomas Jefferson University at the Abraham J. Salaman '58 Tennis Courts.
 
After taking a 1-0 match lead following doubles play, the Knights had to dig deep in singles as the Rams rallied to tie the match at 3-3. Making her collegiate debut, rookie Elise Bosmans clinched the thrilling three-set victory to help Queens open the season on a strong note.
 
With the victory, Queens opens the season 1-0 for the fifth consecutive season.

Doubles Recap

The Knights fell behind early in doubles play as the No. 1 pairing of Ela Vasic and Vilte Vaitkeviciute dropped a 6-2 decision to Anouk Oderkerk and Alycia Veroux.
 
Queens answered at No. 2 doubles, where seniors Lilie Bizouerne and Sixtine Goubet earned a 6-3 victory over Kalmoira Ralli and Isabella Lazzerini to even the doubles score at 1-1.
 
With the match tied, the No. 3 pairing of Johanne Genestay and Anishka Amalnathan secured a 6-3 victory over Madina Omarova and Marely Alvardo, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Singles Recap

Bizouerne opened singles play with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Veroux at No. 3 singles to put Queens ahead 2-0.
 
The Rams responded with back-to-back victories at No. 5 and No. 4 singles to even the match at 2-2. Genestay fell to Lazzerini, 6-3, 6-3, while Amalnathan dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Ralli.
 
Goubet reclaimed the lead for the Knights with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Omarova at No. 2 singles, putting Queens ahead 3-2.
 
With two courts remaining, Vasic took the first set, 6-2, against Oderkerk at No. 1 singles. However, Oderkerk rallied to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-3, leveling the match at 3-3.
 
With the match tied, all eyes turned to No. 6 singles, where Bosmans faced Alvardo in her collegiate debut. Alvardo took the opening set, 6-2, before the rookie rallied to force a deciding set with a 7-5 second-set victory.
 
Bosmans carried the momentum into the third set, earning another 7-5 victory to clinch the match for Queens and secure the Knights' season-opening victory.

Next Match

Continuing CACC play, Queens welcomes the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds to Flushing on Saturday, Sept. 12. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
