Knights Bounce Back with 4-1 Road Win Over Morgan State

Box Score BALTIMORE, MD. – Continuing their road stretch Thursday afternoon, the Queens College men's tennis team took on Division I opponent Morgan State University at Lake Clifton Park Tennis Courts in a cross-divisional matchup.
 
The Knights entered the contest looking to bounce back after a 7-0 setback to Division I foe St. John's University on Wednesday.
 
Queens responded in strong fashion, capturing two of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead before securing three singles victories to earn a 4-1 win. Senior Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) sealed the match at No. 4 singles.
 
With the victory, the Knights improve to 15-2 overall on the season.

DOUBLES PLAY

Queens struck first at the top spot, as the senior duo of Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) earned a decisive 6-1 win over Rhajzon Rankins and Yessine Kerouat.
 
Morgan State answered at No. 2 doubles, where juniors Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and Said Akbarov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) fell 6-2 to Abdulraheem Isa and Ilya Maltsev.
 
The deciding point came at No. 3 doubles, where sophomore duo of Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and Andres Urquiola (Tarija, Bolivia) secured a 6-3 victory over Mohamed Ridha Ghettas and Roman Filima, giving Queens a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.

SINGLES PLAY

Morgan State evened the match at 1-1 as Andersson dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Filima at No. 3 singles.
 
The Knights quickly regained control, winning three straight matches to clinch the victory.
 
Sophomore Jaime Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) put Queens ahead 2-1 with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win over Isa at No. 6 singles.
 
Urquiola extended the lead to 3-1 with a strong 7-5, 6-0 performance against Kerouat at No. 5.
 
Martin-Gibiard delivered the clincher at No. 4 singles, defeating Ghettas 6-4, 6-4 to secure the team victory and snap the Knights' two-match skid.
 
Matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles were left unfinished.

NEXT UP

Queens splits for a Friday, April 10 doubleheader. One group will host Bentley University at 1 p.m. in Flushing, while the other travels to Washington, D.C. to face the University of the District of Columbia in East Coast Conference action at 11 a.m.
