Foix Sotos Clinches as No. 28 Men’s Tennis Defeats No. 46 Adelphi

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to non-conference action, the No. 28 Queens College men's tennis team hosted No. 46 Adelphi University at the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble, earning a hard-fought 5-2 victory.
 
The Knights secured the doubles point by winning two of three matches before claiming four of six singles contests. Senior Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) delivered the clinching point at No. 1 singles with a three-set victory to seal Queens' 13th win of the season.
 
With the win, Queens improves to 13-0 on the year.

DOUBLES PLAY

Queens struck first in doubles action as the senior duo of Lucas Foix Sotos (Javea, Spain) and Alexis Martin-Gibiard (Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France) earned a dominant 6-1 win over Louca Bertone and Spyridon Papageorgiou at No. 2.
 
Adelphi responded at the top spot, where the Knights' No. 1 pair of sophomore Samuel Linck (Haarlem, Netherlands) and junior Said Akbarov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) fell 6-3 to Thomas Horsley and Viktor Hockl.
 
The doubles point came down to No. 3, where juniors Tim Andersson (Linkoping, Sweden) and David Cerne (Ljubljana, Slovenia) secured a 6-4 victory over Matias Hoyos and Leo Silverston, giving Queens a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

SINGLES PLAY

Queens quickly extended its lead to 2-0 as sophomore Ismoil Khayriddinov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hoyos at No. 6 singles.
 
Martin-Gibiard followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Horsley at No. 4 to put the Knights ahead 3-0.
 
Adelphi got on the board at No. 3 singles, where Akbarov dropped a tightly contested 6-4, 7-5 decision to Papageorgiou.
 
With three matches remaining, all going the distance, Foix Sotos clinched the match at No. 1 singles, defeating Hockl 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to secure the team victory.
 
At No. 5 singles, junior Caleb Brightman (Pawling, N.Y.) battled in a three-set match but fell 4-6, 7-5, 0-1 (3-10) to Silverston, giving Adelphi its second point.

Queens closed out the match at No. 2 singles, where Andersson rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Bertone 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 in a match that lasted nearly three hours.

Queens returns to action on Thursday, April 2, hosting Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights in a cross-divisional matchup. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
