FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to East Coast Conference play Friday afternoon, the No. 18 Queens College women's tennis team welcomed the Daemen University Wildcats to the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble, earning a dominant 7-0 victory.
The Knights swept all nine matches on the afternoon, with sophomore
Johanne Genestay (Dinan, France) clinching the win at No. 3 singles.
With the victory, Queens improves to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in ECC play.
Doubles Play
Queens took control early by sweeping doubles competition to secure the opening point.
The nationally-ranked No. 24 duo of senior
Marie Bertran (Villelaure, France) and freshman
Ela Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) earned a 6-1 victory over Marley Conover and Bella Bjerkan at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, juniors
Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) and
Sixtine Goubet (Lyon, France) defeated Carly Armitage and Ashley Bonilla, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point.
Queens completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles as juniors
Allycia Santa-Cruz (Queens, N.Y.) and Kayla Taszymowicz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a 6-1 win over Lily Goodemote and Dania Mehani.
Singles Play
In singles action, Vasic, promoted to No. 1 singles, shut out Conover 6-0, 6-0, while Bizouerne followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Armitage at No. 2.
Genestay clinched the match at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bjerkan.
At No. 4 singles, Taszymowicz recorded a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Bonilla, and senior
Regina Ruiz (Mexico City, Mexico) earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Goodemote at No. 5.
Santa-Cruz completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nadja Emmendorfer at No. 6 singles.
