FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to regional play, the Queens College women's tennis team hosted Adelphi University inside the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble and earned an impressive victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
In the latest ITA Division II Collegiate Rankings, the Knights entered at No. 27 in the country, while the Panthers came in ranked No. 20.
Queens secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 before claiming four singles victories, highlighted by junior
Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) clinching the match with a three-set comeback win at No. 3 singles.
With the victory, Queens improves to 7-3 overall on the season.
Doubles Play
Queens took control early in doubles competition as the No. 2 pair of juniors
Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) and
Sixtine Goubet (Lyon, France) defeated Zuzanna Witkowska and Kayla Castellano by a score of 6-1.
The Knights secured the doubles point at No. 3 when sophomore
Johanne Genestay (Dinan, France) and senior
Lydia Zafeiri (Athens, Greece) earned a 6-1 victory over Genesis Beltran and Sara Lindeman.
At No. 1 doubles, it was a matchup between nationally ranked pairs as the No. 22 duo of senior
Marie Bertran (Villelaure, France) and freshman
Ela Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) faced No. 16 Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd. In a tightly contested match, Adelphi avoided the sweep with a 7-5 win.
Singles Play
Leading 1-0 entering singles, Vasic extended the advantage to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Oda Halvorsen at No. 4.
Genestay followed with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 to give the Knights a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers got on the board at No. 2 singles as No. 51 Goubet fell to Witkowska.
Queens clinched the match at No. 3 singles as No. 24 Bizouerne rallied after dropping the first set 4-6 to Boyd, responding with 6-1 and 6-2 wins in the final two sets to secure the team victory.
Adelphi picked up another point at No. 6, but at the top spot Bertran closed the day with a thrilling three-set victory over No. 48 Liedbeck, winning 3-6, 7-6 (12-10), 1-0 (11-9) to give Queens its fifth point of the match.

Queens returns to East Coast Conference play on Friday, March 20, when the Knights host Daemen University. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m..
