FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to regional play, the Queens College women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Friday afternoon, sweeping Franklin Pierce University, 7-0, in non-conference action.
With the win, the Knights improve to 6-1 overall on the season.
Doubles Play
Queens set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the opening point.
At No. 2 doubles, juniors
Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) and
Sixtine Goubet (Lyon, France) earned a 6-2 victory over Ines Gabarro and Candela Tortosa.
The Knights clinched the doubles point at the top spot as senior
Marie Bertran (Villelaure, France) and freshman
Ela Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) defeated Ainhoa Ordonez and Gabriela Yamate, 6-2.
Seniors
Regina Ruiz (Mexico City, Mexico) and
Kayla Taszymowicz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a 6-2 win over Ana Munoz and Sara Gonzalez.
Singles Play
Vasic extended the Knights' lead with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 victory over Yamate at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore
Johanne Genestay (Dinan, France) followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 to give the Knights a 3-0 advantage.
Goubet secured the match-clinching point at No. 3 singles, defeating Ordonez 6-2, 6-1.
Bertran added the fifth point of the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Gabarro at the top flight. Taszymowicz pushed the score to 6-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.
In the final match of the day, Bizouerne battled to a 6-3 first-set win over Gonzalez before dropping the second set, 6-1. The junior responded in the match tiebreak, securing a 10-6 decision to complete the 7-0 sweep.

Queens returns to cross-divisional play on Saturday, February 28, traveling to face the Hofstra University Pride in Port Washington. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
